Oaxaca Christmas 2016 blog

January 22, 2017

Barbara and I spent the Christmas holiday season in Oaxaca, a wonderful, friendly city filled with art, culture and a spirit as warm as the sun.  We stayed in a home, hosted by Yolanda and her daughter, Frida, sharing both Christmas eve and Christmas day with them and their friends.

The city was active at night, with religious processions and throngs in the streets and restaurants--all of which made for great night photography.  Here are some of my images.  You'll find more in the Oaxaca, Mexico gallery under Travel.

Cathedral face serves as a screen for projected light show. Tourists and city dwellers on the busy Calle Alcala stop to watch the Nativity show.

On Christmas eve, Catholic churches and social groups from Oaxaca parade around the town's zocalo, or main square in the "calenda" procession.
