Barbara and I made a trip, Jan 20 - Feb 9, under the aegis of UC Berkeley Alumni, to Egypt and Jordan. Our trip was quite enjoyable, with a deep stress on ancient Egyptian history, combined with 4-day post-script visit to Petra and Amman in Jordan: Because of my archaeological background, I felt a strong connection with the temples, statues, and hieroglyphs we saw in Egypt. Eternity is a grand theme that drove much in ancient Egypt: the construction of temples and pyramids, the rituals of mummification and preservation through art and hieroglyphs were means of expressing the theme. My photos seek to capture and embellish the essence meaning of the ancient works, through use of color and Photoshop effects. My goal is to create works that capture the essence of what I saw and learned, and then to meld it with my beliefs and vision. Since this trip reached deep into my mind and soul, I have worked to create art that far transcends literal reproduction and that hopefully aligns with the the Egyptian vision expressed thousands of years ago. Pictures posted here show, in order: Pharaoh's Golden Dawn, the Sphinx in a New Light, Pyramids in a New Light, Pharaoh's Vision, Pharaoh Faces the Future, Nile Sunset, Sunrise over the Nile at Luxor; Nubian Dancers on Cruise Ship; Abdul and myself at step pyramid, Saqarra; Priest of the Egyptian Coptic church; Son of a restaurant owner; Temple on Shore of Lake Aswan; Doves over Amman, Jordan.
